I’m starting a new feature here on Never-Ending Footsteps called the Friday Photo Essay.
I’ve taken almost 20,000 photos in the short time that I’ve been travelling and unfortunately only a small percentage of them manage to make it into my posts.
From now on, every Friday I’m going to take the opportunity to show a selection of photos from my travels, starting this week with Hong Kong!
When I arrived in Hong Kong, I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did. In fact, I only set aside one day of sightseeing for my time there.
After checking into my hostel, I decided to go out exploring – the Tian Tan Buddha was at the top of my list. It’s the world’s largest outdoor bronze Buddha and it definitely didn’t disappoint! I spent over an hour wandering around, admiring the statue and surrounding views.

However, when I got back to my room and looked through my photos I found that my favourite ones were actually the accidental black and white ones!
Here are some of my favourites –
I only spent a day sightseeing, but really wish I had had more time. Having said that, there does seem to be a surprising number of affordable short breaks in Hong Kong on offer at the moment, so I could always pop back for a few days to see more of the city.
Have you ever been to Hong Kong? What would you recommend for me to check out the next time I am there?
