Spectacular Views at Hanging Rock, Australia

Hanging Rock, Victoria, Australia. Also known as Mount Diogenes, the extraordinary rock formation protrudes 718 meters above sea level. Hanging Rock is formed from volcanic activity and is about 6.25 million years old. It was an important male initiation site of the Wurundjeri people.

Today the site still offers a great day out and provides wonderful views. It takes only 40 minutes to hike to the summit. From the top a scenic panorama of Macedon Ranges opens. The Rock also features a picnic and a barbeque area as well as a cafe and a race course, since it has a long tradition of horse races.

Drive by car – it is only 70 km north-west of Melbourne.
